18-15 is Nothing to Cry About

Would it have been nice to sweep the Nationals? Yes, of course it would have been. The reality however is that like many starts this year, the Giants just couldn’t give Zito the run support he needed early on in the game. Too little, too late seemed to be the theme today, offensively speaking.

Overall though, it was a good series in which the Giants came out on top. Our record this year seems fifty times better than last year at this time. Maybe it’s the team morale, maybe it’s the low expectations or maybe it’s just baseball. I’m going to go with the latter.

Again Pablo Sandoval had some great defensive plays, Zito started out really strong and it was nice to see some of the kids get a start today. I think that the combination of veterans and newcomers has really had an effect on everyone in the dugout, and it’s going to pay off (I hope!).

The key to the Giants offense seems to be scoring first. The fact they are undefeated when scoring first is HUGE.

Tomorrow kicks off a four game homestead against the Mets, this should be a true test of wills and hopefully the bats will be wide awake for this series.

Game time tomorrow is 7:15PST and Sanchez is the starting pitcher. You can watch the game locally on CSN-BA.

Have a great night everyone.

GO GIANTS!

No better time than the Present

In the wake of the AMAZING game last night, I have decided to start my own Giants Blog. My boyfriend is probably sick of talking baseball with me every day, so I have found a new outlet for my jabbering, my blog!

First Topic: Pablo Sandoval

There is no denying this kids got talent. The HR in the bottom of the ninth inning is what baseball is made of.  In addition to being a clutch hitter and a great defensive corner player, Pablo has something that I haven’t seen since the Great Omar V. left us, the giggles. In my opinion, seeing a player out there, having fun and enjoying what they are doing, truly makes for a great addition to the Giants organization.  This kid has something really special and I can’t wait to see him develop into a great player and person on the baseball field.

Second Topic: Barry Zito

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BARRY!!

Now getting down to business. You know, I was SO sick of hearing baseball fans tell me how the Giants messed the Cy Young winner, Barry Zito, up for good.  How the Giants love to “waste” money on people called Barry (yeah, great argument buddy) and I even heard the boo’s in our OWN stadium last season during most Zito starts. This really fried my feathers, but this year it looks like all those haters can shove it up their under .500 standings (*cough* A’s fans *cough*) and start talking crap about what they used to, before we took Zito from them. All I can say is I have a feeling he is going to be FANTASTIC this year. He seems calm and confident, which is the most important thing a pitcher can do. I should know, I was one for 13 years. You can have the perfect mechanics but if you don’t believe you can do it, you won’t.

Third (and final) Topic: Velez

I am sure I am going to get some heat for this, but it’s my blog, so I have to put it out there. Let me start by saying that I cannot stand Velez. Yes, the kid is fast, I’ll give him that, but what else is there? He rarely gets on base, makes a ton of errors in the field and has an attitude to boot. When I was interning with the Giants I saw our most recognizable players (Bengie, Aurillia, etc) happily sign autographs for kids, but not Velez. I watched him snub little kid after little kid. Some could argue that the language barrier has a reason, I think that’s BS. Even when he is blatantly taking a pitch when he is in the batter’s box, he has attitude. After he makes a mistake and one of the coaches tries to talk to him about his error, he looks like he could care less. Bring someone else up for God’s sake. Someone who looks like they want to be there, with the fans, with the other players and wants to give 110%.

Well, that’s all for now. Next game starts just before 1:00, it’s Zito’s turn in rotation (on his b-day, how cool). We are only 3 games out so let’s hope we can take the brooms after this series.

Please feel free to comment or add to anything I have said in my premier blog post. Have a great one!
